MARTINSBURG BOROUGH COUNCIL MINUTES
JANUARY 2, 2007
The regular meeting of the Martinsburg Borough Council was held on Tuesday, January 2, 2007, in the municipal building. The meeting started at 7:00 p.m. with prayer by Randy Stoltz and the Pledge of Allegiance.
ELECTED OFFICIALS PRESENT: Mayor Donald C. Greenleaf, President Robert A. Carper, Pro-tem Nathan P. Ormsby, Councilman Christopher E. Brooks, Councilwoman Doreen K. Easly and Councilwoman Suzanne B. McNally

The MINUTES of the regular meeting of December 4, 2006, with the correction that the July 2007 meeting date was “JULY 2” not July 20, were approved on a motion by Nathan Ormsby, seconded by Chris Brooks. The motion passed unanimously.
The FINANCIAL AND TREASURER’S REPORTS were presented for December 2006 as written.
The LIST OF BILLS for December 2006, check nos. 3468-3513 in the amount of $46,973.56 was approved on a motion by Doreen Easly, seconded by Suzanne McNally. The motion passed unanimously.
Mayor Greenleaf had no report.
Chief Kerry Hoover presented his police report as written. He thanked council for reappointing his to his positions with the borough for another year. The month of December was quieter than November. The department was busy with the Toys for Kids program in December – 186 families were helped. The next Neighborhood Crime Watch meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 16 from 7-8:00 p.m. in the Jaycee Room. A State Police trooper will speak on the topic of identity theft.
Chris Brooks commented how impressed he was with how full the Jaycee Room was with toys and food before they started disbursing it. There is still a lot of food remaining. Kerry’s wife Beth was also commended for all of her help in the distribution.
Manager Stoltz reported that a water and sewer tap was made on Oakdale Road; the Morrisons Cove Herald donated lunch to the municipal employees on December 22 in appreciation of their services; laminated copies of the community map were received on December 28 – the rest of the maps will be shipped to us soon; December 29th was the three year anniversary for the Hollidaysburg American Legion Ambulance service in Martinsburg; DeGols Lumber moved their business out of Martinsburg on December 30th – the building will be up for sale; Burchfields, Inc. is also moving to the old Agway building just out of town across from the BCO; Manager Stoltz commended the Hollidaysburg Ambulance for a job well done
Borough Secretary Jane Staily thanked councilman Chris Brooks for all his help in getting the new water and sewer billing software working with the interrogator used to read water meters electronically.
Attorney Cathy Miller reported that once she gets the 911 Ordinance revisions she will prepare it and mail it to Jane Staily for advertisement for consideration for adoption at the February meeting.
Doreen Easly reported that there spaghetti dinner fundraiser for the 175th Anniversary Celebration is schedule to be held on Saturday, February 17th.
The Martinsburg Volunteer Fire Department presented council with copies of the 2006 annual FIRE COMPANY report. Council was very appreciative for all their work. Nathan Ormsby and Chris Brooks as scheduled to be sworn in by the department at their next meeting as members of the Martinsburg Volunteer Fire Company’s board of trustees.
Mike Parisi and Brian Syler were present in representation of the Hollidaysburg Ambulance Service and expressed their appreciation to the community for all of their support.
There will be an executive session following the regular meeting to discuss personnel matters in the police department.
The meeting adjourned at approximately 7:35 p.m. on a motion by Nathan Ormsby, seconded by Doreen Easly. The motion passed unanimously.
